Sandy read the minutes of the December 3 meeting. Fr. gave Sandy some suggestions of contacts to enable e-mail information to be sent to The Sower. Marge reported that the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Society made many “exceptional” visits to parish sick and shut-ins during the Christmas season. Society members and some children presented gifts and caroled at these visits. They were warmly welcomed. It was decided that the parish should send Sunday bulletins to the shut-ins. Sandy volunteered to do this. Donna reported that the children of the Religious Education Program have been busy singing. They caroled for the sick, for the parishioners of St. Peter and St. Paul church in Cohoes, and will carol between liturgies at our church next Sunday. On Saturday, Jan.17, Fr. will meet with the catechists and the parents of our religious ed. program. Tom Gutch will meet with the students at that time. The Dec.7, St. Nicholas Dinner/Program was attended by 105 people. Attendance was lower than last year. All went well but there may have been too much time between events. It was reported that attendance at Epiphany services was low. This is a Holy Day of Obligation and important feast day. Everyone was asked to “welcome” others to Holy day services. The annual Sunday of Forgiveness Pot Luck Dinner will be held February 22,2004. This is the Sunday before Great Fast begins. Marta volunteered to chair this event. A combined liturgy will be held at10am, the luncheon at 11:30, and the Forgiveness Service at 1pm. Mary will chair the entertainment. Donna reported that the visit of Cardinal Husar was a great event. Fr. commented that the people of our parish worked well together. The Annual Parish Meeting date will be announced soon. Names were suggested to fill the vacancies on this council. Donna will speak to the candidates. Mary suggested a bus trip for this spring. She will research this further. Fr. suggested compiling a parish directory. More information will follow. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30.
Parish Council Meeting Minutes February 4, 2004 Those in attendance: S. Chuhta, M. Deitz, A. Demczar, M. Fedak, M. Felack, D. Getman, R. Karpishka, D. Kopchick, C. Levy, L. Mokey and D. Warrenchak. Fr. led the council in prayer and Roman facilitated the meeting. Sandy read the minutes of the Jan.8 meeting. Marge reported that the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Society made several visits to housebound parishioners. On January 19, the Society hosted a morning of prayer for Michelle Robertson. This included a liturgy, a rosary session led by Tom Gutch, and luncheon. Sandy reported that she sends Sunday bulletins to 16 shut-in parishioners biweekly. Donna reported that the Religious Ed. Program recently held its second Family Faith Day. This is an effort to get parents more involved in the religious education of their children. Another Family Faith Day is planned for March. Donna also reported that weekly class attendance is poor. It is very hard to teach a class, when most students are absent, and parents do not notify the teachers of these absences prior to class time. Religious education is a top priority of this parish. The education program is in OUR tradition. The council brainstormed how to best convey this information to all parishioners. An announcement will be published in the bulletin regularly encouraging parents and children and explaining the life of the school. Marta reported that the second annual Pot Luck Dinner will be held February 22 at 11:30 following a 10am combined liturgy. A sign-up sheet is in the vestibule. Mary described the entertainment and requested donations of prizes. The Forgiveness Service will follow this fun fellowship. The Annual Parish Meeting, with election to both councils, will take place March 7 after a combined liturgy. Candidates have been contacted. Roman will give a report of this council and asked that all council members bring information, to be included, to the next meeting. Fr. reported that representatives of Olan Mills Photographers will be at the church on March 12 and 13 to photograph parish families and individuals for the parish photo directory. There will be a sign-up sheet in the vestibule to make an appointment. Each group photographed will receive a free directory and a free 8x10 photo. All are encouraged to participate. Mary reported that the bus trip that she had investigated was very costly and already booked. She will seek other options and encouraged input from others. Dan reported that the Senior Citizen Valentine’s Party will be held Saturday, February 7, from noon until 3pm. The current condition of liturgy books was discussed. Despite attempts to restore the books that are in the pews, destruction continues. The council decided to purchase hard covered liturgy books and sell them to interested parishioners. The best of the present books will be kept in the pews for visitors. The next meeting will be held March 3 at 6:30pm. Fr. closed the meeting with prayer.

Marge reported that members of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Society continue to visit the sick and shut-ins and are making plans for the Easter visits. There are several parishioners celebrating 90 year birthdays in 2004. These parishioners will be feted at their residence by the society and their names will be printed in the bulletin so all may wish them well. The council discussed Michele’s passing and how hard she worked for the parish. We miss her and are searching for the best way to express this. Father reported that hard covered liturgy books are available for purchase at $8 each. The parish photo directory is progressing. Approximately 50 families have signed up thus far. Volunteers are needed to help with sign ups on Sunday, to make reminder calls, to do layout, and to work at the photo session on Saturday, March 13. Christiane volunteered to work on the directory layout. The next catechist training session will be held March 21,2004 at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Cohoes, at 1pm. Marta reported that 55 adults and 15 children attended the Pot Luck Dinner on February 22,2004 following a combined liturgy. This was a time of good fellowship and preceded the Vespers of Forgiveness. The Annual Parish Meeting will be held Sunday, March 7, with election to the Pastoral and Stewardship Councils. Roman suggested a parish bus trip to the Shelburne Museum near Burlington, Vt. More details will follow. Dan reported that about 50 people enjoyed the annual Senior Citizen’s Valentine’s Party on February 7,2004. Chris Levy reported that the lending library is now available at the rear of the sanctuary. Instructions were given and will be posted in the library. Donations of books on religious and Ukrainian topics are needed. Ideas for the future include: story time for small children, a nursery during liturgy, installation of an elevator or ramp, providing a Christian parenting course, a youth fellowship group for high school students, and Easter traditions lessons for parish children. The next meeting will be held April 14 at 6:30pm.The meeting ended with prayer.

This is a one week postponement of the original date set. The picnic committee of Dan, Marta, Alisa, and Roman will meet in August. Ideas for entertainment were suggested. Father ordered and has recently received 120 hard covered liturgy books. ‘Property of—‘ labels/embossing was discussed. Christy will investigate this further. Donna, Diana, and Sandy volunteered to prepare the books and install them in the church. Father and Donna stated that the Centennial Committee seeks a parish mission statement. An example was read. Parish members will be asked to submit ideas starting in September. Roman will send an announcement to the bulletin. Ideas will also be gathered at parish events in the fall. A special e-mail address will be set up to gather the ideas. A December deadline will be posted and the Centennial Committee will use these ideas to compose the mission statement. It was noted that it is often difficult to hear the children read the Epistle at liturgies. Possible solutions include: a scaled-down lectern, a longer gooseneck on the microphone, and a safe platform on which the child could stand. Roman will work on the microphone and Andy offered to donate a stable platform. Ted Fedak has recently been elected president of the OMPHS. Sandy will e-mail an invitation to attend the Pastoral Council meetings to him and another society representative. There will be no meeting in August. The next meeting will be on September1, 2004. Father dismissed the council after prayer.
Pastoral Council Minutes Wednesday, September 01, 2004 Attendees: A. Serdyuk, C. Levy, D. Warrenchak, L. Mokey, T. Fedak, D. Zavisky, T. Miszczuk, M. Deitz, C. Father sent the deposit to the Watervliet Arsenal. Roman will hold a meeting next week of the picnic committee. Discussed the labeling of the hard-cover liturgy books. Discussed several options including paper labels and engraving with a stamp. Chris Levy will take a book and try different engraving techniques. Christy Lee will look for colored paper labels. A platform is now available for the children to stand on while reading the Epistle. If the platform doesn’t address the issue, then we will look into what can be done with the microphone. Ted Fedak suggested that an adult meet with the child before liturgy and adjust the platform and microphone for the best position for the child. Father suggested that the children practice several times before their reading so they are more comfortable with the reading and so they won’t have to look down at the book so much. Father also brought up the idea presented by Frank Bellicose several meetings ago that we have training a couple times a year. Christy suggested that the religious education teachers setup the microphone and platform and provide the training. The council agreed that the religious education teachers will provide or organize the training and adjust the platform and microphone for their students. Chris Levy suggested that we allow the other local Ukrainian churches and the local Roman Catholic churches borrow from our library. We will open the library to the local Ukrainian churches first and then to the local Roman Catholic churches. We discussed having a special liturgy to introduce Roman Catholics to our liturgy. We discussed having this event in April. We will create a committee for this event after the Harvest Festival. Diana talked about a program on EWTN about Ukrainian churches in Ukrainian. Marta will look at the EWTN website to see if this program is available for sale. Christy needs help identifying the groups and the members in the pictures for the church directory. She needs to know which groups the pictures are of and who are in them and who the contact is for the group so I can find out who is missing from the pictures. Maria Wachenko moved to Lake Placid and will no longer be a member of the Pastoral Council. Next meeting is October, 6th at 6:30pm. Father closed the meeting with a prayer.
