Pastoral Council/Vibrant Parish
Minutes April 19, 2017

Pastoral Council Members: Bernadette Drabik (Chairperson), Zoriana Mangione (Trustee), Irene Skalij, Diane Filak, Patricia Dudley. Representatives: Jo Ann Dunne (OMPHS), Fr. Mikhail Myshchuk, Fr. Deacon Thomas Gutch
In Attendance: Fr. Mikhail Myshchuk, Fr. Deacon Thomas Gutch, Bernadette Drabik, Zoriana Mangione, Irene Skalij, Diana Filak, Jo Ann Dunne.
The meeting was opened by Fr. Mikhail with a prayer and singing of “Christ is Risen”.
Our Mother of Perpetual Help Society: Jo Ann Dunne reported that Society members have begun their Easter visits to our sick and homebound parishioners. This year we are giving an Easter basket with blessed pussy willows, a wooden Ukrainian Easter egg with stand and a small floral wreath that can be hung on a door or bulletin board.
Religious Education: One student will be receiving Holy First Communion this year on May 7th. Bernadette Drabik reported that cards were sent to our sick and homebound parishioners for Easter.
Lenten Mission for 2017 – The mission was on March 17, 18 and 19 and was given by Fr. Roman Mirczuk. Everything went very well.
March Financial Meeting – Was held on March 5, 2017. Everything went very well.
First Sunday in April – Joe Proctor catered soup and seafood sandwiches. The food was very good and everything went well.
May 7th will be First Holy Communion; one child is being prepared to receive. Zoriana will contact Joe Proctor to see whether he will be able to cater. If he is not able, there will be no luncheon.
June – The first Sunday of the month is Pentecost Sunday, there will not be a luncheon.
July and August – There will be no first Sunday luncheons. Joe Proctor cannot commit to anything beyond August at this time.
Picnic – Questions were raised about whether we will have a picnic in August. If we do, Zoriana suggested Slidin’ Dirty. Father Mikhail suggested bringing your own picnic lunch. No decisions were made at this time.
Pilgrimage – The pilgrimage advertised in The Sower to holy sites in Europe is from April 24th through May 4th
Suggestions: The box was not checked because we did not have the key at the meeting.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will be having a festival on May 18, 19 and 20th and are inviting many parishes to rent a booth to sell their ethnic foods and/or crafts. The hours are 6-10 on Friday and 5-10 on Saturday. They are doing this to bring attention to their church. Our Zorepad dancers will be performing on Saturday. In return we can have a booth free of charge and keep the profit from food sales. Our Stewardship Council does not want to participate because it is too soon. However, we already have pyrohy and paskas in the freezer that could be sold. Making borsch was also suggested. Other churches will be selling sweets. Father suggested using Email to see if we can work out a plan and get volunteers. We would need to figure out where to heat they pyrohy and keep them hot. Father can commit to one or two days. If the weather is nice, it will be outside. If it rains it can be held in their hall.
List of Tasks for Volunteers- Zoriana developed a rough draft of tasks that parishioners may volunteer for so that things will run in an efficient and orderly manner, and so that when something needs doing we will have a list of who is supposed to do it. She suggested handling it like the Giving Tree, with the tasks hanging on the branches for parishioners to take. This will be tabled for discussion at a later date.
Next Meeting: May 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jo Ann Dunne

Pastoral Council/Vibrant Parish
Minutes June 14, 2017

Pastoral Council Members: Bernadette Drabik (Chairperson), Zoriana Mangione (Trustee), Irene Skalij, Diane Filak, Patricia Dudley. Representatives: Jo Ann Dunne (OMPHS), Fr. Mikhail Myshchuk, Fr. Deacon Thomas Gutch
In Attendance: Fr. Mikhail Myshchuk, Fr. Deacon Thomas Gutch, Bernadette Drabik, Diane Filak, Patricia Dudley, Zoriana Mangione, Jo Ann Dunne.
The meeting was opened by Fr. Mikhail with a prayer.
Our Mother of Perpetual Help Society: Jo Ann Dunne reported that Society members continue to visit and call to our sick and homebound parishioners. Our Society has requested a Divine Liturgy for +Luba Mokey on June 19th at 10:00 a.m. Pauline Storonsky will celebrate her 90th birthday on July 10th. Plans are being made in accordance with Pauline’s wishes. We welcome two new members of the Society, Jack and Meg Ihnatolya.
Religious Education: One student has received Solemn Holy First Communion this year on May 7th. A Moleben will be celebrated to mark the end of the school year.
Parish Picnic—Father contacted the Ukrainian Community and no plans have been made yet. They tend to want to go to the new pavilion in Cohoes, probably August 27th.
Dates of August 13, 20 and 27 are open at the Arsenal. One suggestion was Slidin’ Dirty for a caterer, but we do not know whether they have clearance for the Arsenal. Or, we can bring our own lunches. Zoriana suggested that if the Ukrainian Community has something we should not have something separate. Father Mikhail suggested having something together if possible. August 6-19 is Dance Camp.
Pilgrimage – The pilgrimage was beautiful and indescribable, very spiritual. There was a Divine Liturgy every day, sometimes three or four. There were candlelight processions and much walking on their knees.
Natalka has asked Bernie if she could organize a day at Stockbridge. There are questions about scheduling something at Auriesville. Should we plan something with a Divine Liturgy including Watervliet, Cohoes and Amsterdam? Fr. Deacon Tom will gather information.
Suggestions: There were no suggestions.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish had a festival on May 19 and 20th and invited many parishes to rent a booth to sell their ethnic foods and/or crafts. Those who attended the festival found more than they expected. There was food for sale from various churches and also a petting zoo. Zoropad Dance Group performed and many said that they were the best. Two bands were playing. There was a fairly large turnout.
Joseph’s House—has requested donations for the warm weather. Tee shirts, flip flops for taking showers, men’s boxers and personal grooming products were requested. Bernie will bring in bins for the collection.
Pamphlets—Bernie has ordered new pamphlets. Father suggested putting them in the vestibule. He will ask Mr. Oliynyk to make something to hold them, maybe mount it on the library door.
Sight and Sound Theatre—Fr. Deacon Tom said that they have all religious subjects; they use live animals in their productions and actors approach from right and left and down the center isle so that the audience feels immersed in the production. He said that they saw Jonah and the Whale, and that the productions are better than Broadway. Fr. Mikhail will find out more. It sounds like a good idea for a trip, maybe in October.
